Dr. Arletha (Angel) Lands (CEO/Founder)

Dr. Lands is a public and community health practitioner, Kinesiologist of Exercise/Nutrition in sports medicine, a certified nutritionist, health educator, certified physical/occupational therapist and an Orthopedics specialist within the bay area. She is the President/founder of the non-profit organization "Health & Fitness for Minority Women Inc." and owner of "Angel’s Personal & Sports Specific Fitness Center" in Oakland California. Dr. Lands from 1992 - 1996 taught and developed physical conditioning, aerobic exercise and aquatic programs for the Peralta School district at Laney College, Merritt College and Alameda College. For over twelve years, Dr. Lands worked with thousands of minority students at the University of California State Hayward in the Kinesiology and Nutrition Department. She work with primary and secondary students through implementing physical education cirriculums in the Oakland, Berkeley and Richmond Unified School district where she taught students physical health and physical activity. She also ran intramural sports after school programs for schools throughout the Bay Area. Dr. Lands at the university, primary and secondary level have taught Health education, anatomy and physiology, nutrition, teaching credential programs, home-school for students left behind, community health workshops on minority health, and a host of others.... She is a member of the National Association for Girls and Women in Sport; American Association for Physical Activity and Recreation; National Association for Sport and Physical Education; American Association for Health Education; International Sports Science Association; American Public Health Association, American Occupation Therapist Association (AOTA), American Physical Therapist Association (APTA) and the National Fibromyalgia Association. Dr. Lands have devoted 23 years of professional experience within the health and fitness industry. Dr. Lands have acquired an extensive academic training and credentials within the health and fitness arenas. Health arena: physical/mental health, nutrition, holistic health, healthcare management and public & community health. Fitness arena: personal/sports training, physical education curriculum developer, exercise physiology, physical therapy and rehabilitation and sports medicine/orthopedics. Credentials: MD in Orthopedic Specialist, two PhD’s in Public & community health and Leadership Organization, MBA in Healthcare Management, MS in Exercise Physiology, BS in Kinesiology in Exercise & Nutrition and Teaching Credentials, BA in Business Administration, two AS's in Health Science and Social & Behavioral Science, four AA's in Natural Science, General Education, Dance Choreography, and Childhood Development; RN degree in Registered Nurse/practitioner and a host of certifications in physical training and coaching.

Ms. Rickell Shackelford (Treasurer)

Ms. Shackelford is a certified accountant and up coming medical coding/billing graduate. Ms. Shackelford for the past five years has worked with the organization before becoming a non-profit. Ms. Shackelford has 5+ years of accounting and data entry. She has graduated from El Cerrito High School, attended California State Hayward Eastbay, majoring in Music and Psychology and is now a student at Contra Costa College where she is studying medical assistant. Ms. Shackelford has an extensive athletic backgroud in sports such as Gymnastics, Karate, Cheerleading, Track/Field and Ice Skating which makes her a perfect employee for HF4MW Inc. She works primarily as an bookkeeper/receptionist and data entry clertk. Ms. Shackelford has creative skills in R & B song writing and singing, sewing, creative arts and others.

Dr. Bernadette C. Marson, ACSW, LCSW-R, (Executive Director)

BSW and MSW from Adelphi University. Presently, she is licensed Clinical Social Worker, a certified member of the Academy of Certified Social Workers, and recieved a PhD from Walden University. As the Managing Director of her behavioral health company, Marson LCSW and Consulting Services, PLLC, she also maintains a private practice in Bayshore, NY. Further, she is an Adjunct Professor at Adelphi University where she teaches graduate students in the School of social work. Bernadette is the Vice President of the National Association of Social Workers (NASW) New York State, which overseas over twelve thousand social workers in New York State, and a past Division director of NASW-NYS Suffolk 

Division. She served on the Executive Boards of NASW-NYS, Mid-Island Club National Association of Negro Business and Professional Women Clubs Inc., and the Brentwood Academy of Science Charter School.

Most recently, she was the Director of case Management for one of the largest human services agencies in New York City prior to which she was the Director of Family and Children Services for a Multi-Service Agency in East Harlem, a Clinical Coordinator with the Mental Health Association of Nassau County, Inc., and a supervisor at a psychiatric hospital. In her career she also worked with the elderly, at risk adolescents, mentally ill, substance abusers, victims of domestic violence, autistic children and the developmentally disabled.


Bernadette is the recipient of many awards and in June 2007, she was awarded the Excellence in Leadership Award from NASW-NYS. Since 2009, she has been profiled annually as an Outstanding African-American Social Worker by NASW and noted as a leading expert on issues within the black community by Demodirt, a leading website which provides demographic data and for which she appeared as a guest columnist. She has traveled to over twenty-five countries including: Israel, Turkey, France, England, Spain, Argentina, South Africa and Greece, learning the culture and the language of each country allowing her to provide cultural competency training to organizations. She is a motivational speaker who has made presentations at conferences in the United States and internationally and appeared on national television


Constance Plummer, BS, CPC, CRCR, Administrator


Resides in Oakland, California. She is currently a Revenue Cycle Auditor III for Kaiser Permanente Hospitals/Health Plan. She holds a Bachelors Degree in Business Administration from the University of Phoenix and is a Certified Professional Coder (CPC), along with being a Credentialed Revenue Cycle Representative (CRCR). She is a member of the National Association of Professional Women (NAPW) and Mary-Kay Consultant


Deborah Carney, Secretary

Ms. Carney resides in Oakland California. She is presently working within the rural communities of Alameda County where she speaks on behalf of minority rights to proper housing and treatments. She has worked with HF4MW Inc. organization for the past three years helping with secretarial duties, meetings and workshops.
